What is President Obama thinking? Reducing the tax deduction rate on gifts made to charities! Sounds like he wants you and I more dependant on the Federal government for any kind of aid or assistance instead of national or local charities, kind of like what they are doing with this bailout money.
What's the President afraid of? Maybe that charities can do the job better and more efficiently and reach more people than the federal government ever could. That's it! the President and this administration doesn't want to be shown up by a group of people who's only goal is to help their fellow man.
I agree with Ryan Messmore from the Heritage Foundation when he says:
Obama should use his presidential authority and influence to encourage voluntary giving and protect nonprofit groups, especially during tough economic times. President Obama speaks articulately and often of the important role charitable institutions play in America. He should send an equally clear message in his policy. Reconsidering the tax changes proposed for charitable donations would be good place to begin. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Budget/wm2379.cfm
